I love love love the striped bells. I first saw a picture of Mick Jagger wearing skinny tight striped bells in the early 60s, and I've loved the style ever since.

The jacket and bell bottoms are taken from Simplicity 4786, but don't forget to enlarge the hip area a smidge for AGs. I created a small rosette out of gingham as an accent for the jacket. The sleeveless dress is my own design. I appliqued the dress and bells.

It's all in the details - appliqued heart on the dress and the rosette on the jacket.

The appliqued sheath dress looks fabulous over pants - a style we wore in the 60s, as well. After seeing how cute the dress turned out, I feel inspired to create a Nehru-style jacket to go with skinny pants for our dolls, too.

The BEST PART of City Girl, Country Girl is that all components are interchangeable, making many little outfits for your doll!

Robin's Choice:

City girl, Country Girl

This fabulous coordinated fashion line for American Girl dolls is based on clothing I owned designed by Bobbi Brooks (circa 1968).

I started with a Simplicy pattern and maximized it with fabrics and essential details.

Special attention was paid to mixing and matching cotton fabrics.

I spent a few days cutting and sewing these separates. I'm finding that Simplicity patterns don't always quite fit " the curvy derriere" of AG girls, so I have had to re-plan, re-cut, and re-sew the slacks several times. An adult would be able to dress the doll with the Simplicity design slacks, but a six year old would probably get frustrated. Using tissue, I redrew the pattern for a better fit.
